redundant-installation-prerequisite
A stronger field for prerequisites in the debian/control
file satisfies the named condition stated in a weaker field.
For example, you would see this tag when the Depends
field
already requires that a package which is also listed in Recommends
or Suggests
is installed. Or, a package could be listed in both
Recommends
as well as Suggests
.
Current versions of dpkg-gencontrol
will silently ignore the
weaker field, but like anything unexpected it could indicate another oversight,
such as a misspelling or having forgotten to remove the stronger prereguisite
when the intent was to move it to a weaker field.
For more information please consult:
- Binary Dependencies - Depends, Recommends, Suggests, Enhances, Pre-Depends (Section 7.2) in the Debian Policy Manual
The tag is present in Lintian version 2.114.163
.
That is the most recent version we know about.
We use semantic versions.
The patch number is a commit step indicator relative to the
2.114.0
release tag in our Git
repository.
You can find the detection logic for this version at commit ea05801. For merge requests, please use the latest version in the Lintian check debian/control/prerequisite/redundant.
